Creating a storytelling portal exploring the future of work

Microsoft has decades of research on how people work, and an unmatched view of how AI is changing it. But busy business decision-makers don’t tend to have time to read research papers. How could Microsoft turn its expertise into engaging stories that shape how business leaders think about the future of work?
Drawing on our newsroom experience, we built the WorkLab site from scratch, with a vibrant editorial design system. It started with feature stories and expanded to include how-to guides, reports, an executive newsletter, and an award-winning podcast. Launched as hybrid work took hold, it proved flexible enough to pivot when generative AI arrived, crystallizing Microsoft’s vision of the AI-powered workplace. One WorkLab story, on the “triple peak” workday, earned coverage from The New York Times, The Atlantic, Bloomberg, and NPR — without a single press release.

GDP helped elevate our storytelling about the future of work.
