Explaining how one badass
shoe line trashes all the
rules of manufacturing

Nike Innovation took on an ambitious sustainability challenge: to create its lowest-carbon shoe ever from as much recycled waste as possible. Nike invited us inside the process of creating that sneaker line, called Space Hippie. Stories about sustainability are often serious. How could we capture the joy and optimism of the designers behind this one?

We crisscrossed the globe, from Nike’s labs to secret design jams in the Oregon woods to partner factories in Vietnam, where we gained rare permission to film. The result was three short films, by turns funny, thought-provoking, and touching, that weave the designers’ stories together with archival footage. We also cut edits for Nike’s apps, social channels, and Nike.com. The first Space Hippie release sold out in under four minutes.

If they look weird, it's because they're made of trash.

Using the same footage, graphics, and principals as the main film, the team cut five individual shorts custom-designed for Nike’s smartphone apps and social feeds. Each is a rapid-fire introduction to a specific aspect of the Space Hippie project.
