Introducing a global commerce powerhouse to the U.S.
Amsterdam-based Adyen’s payments platform helps merchants sell seamlessly across regions, channels, and devices. But in the U.S., few people knew its name. To break through, Adyen first needed a clear answer to a simple question: What did it stand for?
We interviewed employees and customers to come to a crisp definition: Adyen as the payments authority of choice for the world’s leading companies. Then we brought that idea to life. Photography and motion graphics showed customers buying what they wanted, no matter where they were, from Brazil to China to mid-flight. The campaign ran on billboards, in airports, and on TV in a dozen countries and four languages. Adyen soon extended the campaign into travel and quick-service restaurants. The clearest sign that it worked: the number of new visitors to Adyen’s homepage jumped more than 400 percent.

Strategy work is not all whiteboards and brainstorming sessions. A lot of it is about concision: writing down a positioning line, questioning every single word, and rewriting until only the most essential words remain.
